This hymn associates Asklepios with Apollo, God of healing, prophecy, music.
The story goes that Coronis was pregnant with Apollo's child (Asklepios), she made Apollo jealous, he killed her, but the child (Asklepios) was saved and given to Cheiron (a centaur and teacher) to be instructed in the healing arts.
Asklepios became famous for curing the sick and bringing the dead back to life (with an herb provided by a snake).
Asklepios is the God of the healing powers of nature.
