Divine Medium: Aromatics
Leukothea I call, Kadmean power revered
Dynastic nurturing royal Dionysian
Be open, Goddess, the seas’ deep-bosomed guardian,
Swelling marvelous power, mortal savior majestic,
In thou the floating open seas’ paths unsteady surface commences,
Alone holding mortals’ compassionate fate in the sea
Arise guardian, loving savior, come
Sea Goddess, Queen, bring your aid
Keep afloat well-decked ships, savior, wisely counsel
Mystae on the seas’ nautical course at heaven’s morning light.
Leukothea literally means “White Goddess,” the immortal Goddess of the sea. Stong wind causes the seas to foam and whitecaps to form, white foam blows in streaks across the surface of the water, and in very strong storms the sea is mostly covered in white foam. http://www.msc.ucla.edu/oceanglobe/pdf/seastate_descr.pdf
Kadmeia (Καδμεία) is the citadel of the very ancient Greek city of Thebes. Leukothea was Ino, the mortal daughter of Kadmos and the nurse of Dionysos. Ino became the sea Goddess Leukothea when she leapt into the sea with her son(s) to escape her husband’s insane rage.
Dionysos is the immortal God of Wine and its effects.
